Criteria based protocols

NHS care and treatment is bought by the commissioners on behalf of the whole population. When buying NHS services locally we aim to buy the best quality services. This means providing treatment when there is a high chance of benefit and a low chance of harm. Our overall responsibility is to ensure that purchasing decisions provide equity in the overall use of healthcare resources for the whole population.

In order to do this we will need periodically to develop or revise existing criteria based protocols. It is really important to have your views on these draft protocols so that we can ensure we take on board your comments.  We intend to launch these draft protocols on this website for public consultation.
